Yesterday, I set up a Facebook fan page for my new online store. The Facebook share feature allows access to a long list of email platforms for importing contacts. Great, I thought, this will makes things easier, as I scanned the long list--Yahoo! was there and AOL-- but much to my surprise Gmail was “not supported.”
Besides the annoyance and disappointment that I could not connect my Gmail contacts to my new fan page--and isn’t this really counter to philosophy of Facebook, this screening-out of Gmail?-- the absence of Google Gmail gave credence to the Google vs Facebook headlines that have been popping up lately. Headlines containing predictions that 50% of Facebook users would leave Facebook for Google +, I had assumed hype and perhaps even fueled by Google’s own advertisements.
Apparently GOOGLE hasn’t even shared their Google+ user figures yet.
Another more useful Technobombs article takes us back to user preferences again, with a 2 column, side by side comparison of related features--column one lists Google + features and column 2 lists Facebook features.
